HGA GROW SOON TO EXPAND TO A NEW SITE

A large number of our students have come from the rural communities within our area of focus. With HGA Learn having been running for over six years we now have a database of students from which to involve in our food security programme (now branded, HGA Grow). We have been hard at work trying to identify the next site to expand the programme to, looking for a neutral space within a community where we can establish a food garden and be able to educate and upskill the community members (young and old) about the importance and benefits of being able to grow ones own food. We see this as a great opportunity to be able to involve our students (current or past) where they would be tasked with the day to day management of the food garden, assist with skills transfer and then have the opportunity to be able to gain further work experience from neighbouring commercial farms. We think we have settled on the location for our next site and are excited to share more news on this in the coming months.

Mlondi Cakwe is one of several excellent students who come from the rural communities between Bulwer and Donnybrook and whom we have had the privilege of seeing develop during their in-service training. On account of this the area has been a strong consideration for the location for our next HGA Grow site.
